Omkari Panwar Delivered A Baby At 70 Years Old

Date July 3, 2008

Omkari Panwar, 70, became the oldest woman to give birth after she delivered twins today. She already has two adult daughters and five grandchildren and decided to undergo in-vitro fertility treatment so she could produce a male heir.

Her husband, Charan Singh Panwar, 77, mortgaged his land, sold his buffalos, spent his life savings and took out a credit card loan to finance the treatment.

“At last we have a son and heir,” he said. “We prayed to God, went to saints and visited religious places to pray for an heir.”

“We kept no stone unturned and God has rewarded us. The treatment cost me a fortune but the birth of a son makes it all worthwhile. I can die a happy man and a proud father.”

I can see some men wanting to have a son to keep the family name going. I know of a guy who is the last generation of his family and doesn’t plan on having any kids to keep the family name going.

But why wait until your vagina is about to fall off before you decided that you now want a son? What the fuck have you been doing for the past 40 years that you couldn’t throw your seed in there and try to have your son prior to you being on your death bed?

I’ll never understand anyone over 50 trying to have kids. You need to plan that shit accordingly. No one wants to grow up having to wipe their parents ass because mom and dad decided to pop you out at 85.

Guess what? When you die, no special part of you lives on because there’s a guy who’s out there using your last name and carrying a chunk of your DNA.

So all this carrying on the family name shit is lame. It’s a name, you were born with it, it’s meaningless. When you die, your kid can be a prostitute or an astronaut and it doesn’t matter. Nothing is carried on except the earth’s consumption of your flesh.

If there is an afterlife, I doubt having a male heir is going to effect things.

This is another bizarre CULTURE, and like attached to some pathetic RELIGION! Likely these toothless wonders, are Muslim’s.

What the h e double hockey stick! What if these pathetic people had 2 more girls? Then what? Are the EGGS even her EGGS? I doubt it.

Disgusting. These two are clearly POOR, they can’t even pay for their own health care or dental problems, but let’s have babies to make sure their is an HEIR?

I guess girls in countries like this are not worthy of being HEIRS.

Imagine when these two can no longer care for their twins, their daughters will likely have to raise the HEIRS!

If the man sold EVERYTHING they had, what do they leave for their heir? Poverty?
I mean, if they just did it for the name, then what a shame for those children that will be brought up poorly. But other than that.. I have to hand it her for going through childbirth at that age..WOW.

  7. Beverly said:

Hey I think that everyone has beliefs and if thats what they believe then leave it the hell alone! Shit I hope that I am gettin some wild sex at that age too and if a baby comes out of it, my responsibility not yours.

Invitro means that she had an egg, which may not have been hers, fertilized with sperm, which may not have been his (hopefully), and then placed in her womb to term. My opinion, Guiness Book senseless.

Kim this couple did not concieve these children the ‘natural’ way- the babies may not even have any of the parents’ dna. “Bought” eggs and sperm is a possibility. But, I do think the doctor who placed the eggs and sperm in that 70 year-old woman is brainless. Taking that chance with a woman of that age and also putting the babies in harms’ way. That they basically spent all their hard-earned money just to have a son, at their age, is very hard to understand. Who do you think are going to raise these children, soon?? The older siblings, of course. Unless these parents are in terrific health and have several more years of terrific health, they just handed over more responsibility to their older children.
And, Kim, go back to school and learn to communicate in a mature way. Yikes! Who loves, or even likes, you??

    Hey, Kimchigun
This was done by in-vitro . They were not getting it on to make these babies. Who knows if they were even her eggs. I guess the older kids can raise these kids. Yes put that on them burden on them. They look like they cant even afford to take care of these kids. Thats to bad. But, look at them they don’t look so bright. Well, maybe they will live to be 100 years old then those kids can make it on their own.
I wanted to do in-vitro at 48 years old but my spouse didn’t want our kids to have parents that looked like there grandparents. Hey, maybe I should have done it anyway. Good luck to them.

Yea, are you all that ignorant that you HAVE to insult another cultures beliefs - directed solely at Springhill. The highly probably fact that your mother was a town slut in high school, spread the L-E-Double G-S’s in high school and unfortunately birthed you is a sad thing we all have to deal with; however, insulting anothers culture and religion is pretty pathetic.

Get some class, learn some manners, understand the background of something before you start bashing it, and maybe you’ll one day grow into a decent human being. However, from what we all can see, your parents CULTURE and your RELIGION didn’t do much if at all raising you properly so where do you get off criticizing someone elses?

    You’re a ‘Tard.

  14. El said:

I feel sorry for the kids. This couple is lost in their dreams. It is due to lack of education and some sort of religious belief. As for the doctor who did this, he got the money and that is all he cared. This is not a record. The eggs are not their eggs. If they were healthy enough they could have had on their own. I am sure they have sex often because they are poor and have nothing else to do.

People have dreams and desire and it can kick in at any time. What have you done to fulfill that dream or desire of yours?. For them it was birth of a son. They put everything on line to do it. Can you follow your deepest desire and be courageous. They are a couple, who together did something scarry whatever drove thier desire is a secondary thing. If people could do that…then we all would have great toothless smiles…not a toothy frown..and I am holier than thou attitude. With the dirty mouth like the ones I read here. Please Have some Orbitz, then post comments online….I am sure this couples dental hygiene is much better…

I think that all you negative idiots should just mind your own business. If these people wanted another baby, so what? It is their life. It’s their choice to make. It is their (familiy) business. Did you have to pay for it?? NO. Will you have to pay for it?? NO. Channel all your negative thoughts and responses into something good for a change. Like your own families. We have alot of stupid people right here in the grand ole USA and stupidity starts with the parents and trickles right on down.

  21. Practical said:

Boy, what can one say. These two don’t even seem to understand what they just did. One wouldn’t laugh or ridicule their religeous beliefs or cultural whatever but you know what.

How are they going to maintain the heirs’ if they used up all they had to get the procedure. Looks can be deceiving but, they don’t look like the typical progressive couple who would even be able to request the procedure let alone see how the mother was risking her life!!!

Whose’s idea was this…….(a) the doctor……….(b) the older siblings………(c) some other person in their village/ town/ whatever/tribe whom they are desperately trying to please. I think that someone else stands to gain from all this publicity not the “parents” especiall as it is not a natural conception.

Hope it all works out for the twin. i really do. Hope they do have a better life & education than their mother who put her life through this to brinmg them into the world for her “BELIEF”.

I’M 47yrs with 2 kids 23 & 20 and I won’t be so brave / patriotic/ whatever you wanna call it to preserve the family name and believe me I can afford it. Not for that reason , for medical progress, to save a life but not to become what appears financially burdened or for a family name at this age. I’d do the family name thing a long time ago.

Hope the twins benifit from this stunt.

Here’s what I don’t understand. They wanted an heir, right? If it was not her egg and not his sperm, then how do the children technically qualify as heirs? I know, she carried them for 9 mths, which at 70 is awesome. Yes, I know she gave birth to them. And they will be parented by them for as many years as the parents may have left. I know there are many couples out there who have to use this form of contraception due to biological problems and consider the children their own. But that is to start a family - not start a family 30 years later because you realized you didn’t have an heir. Sold everything he had?? I just don’t get it. I guess they will die not having the regret of never ‘trying’ for a son.

  23. Patricia said:

At her age the eggs had to be donated that is probably why it cost so much. Males continue to make sperm up until they die. I guess that tells us nature allows the males to continue to father children but that nature expects the females to stop. If technology gives females the option to keep going…why not use it? Besides every one of us gapping about this will not be the ones raising their children.

  25. CourtneyG said:

I think what most of you here are mistaking is the “heir” part. They didn’t do this for an heir, as we would in the US. This is done to pass down the family name, so their name will continue on. This isn’t about giving a boy the family money, this is about passing on their families name which obviously does mean something to people in certain parts of the world. In fact i am sure it means a lot to people in our country.

  26. Shauna said:

I think that half the people that left comments on this article are idiots. Grow up, learn some new vocabulary words that don’t include sh**, f****, or dam* and get a life. Sure, these two people probably had no business having more children, if not because of their age, because of their poverty level. But who are we to judge what they do? They live in a completely different world than we do, and having a son was obviously incredibly important to them. We may not understand or agree with that, but we don’t have to. I personally think that we should worry more about the 14 and 15 year old girls in OUR country who are having babies on a daily basis. If you want to talk about people not being able to properly care for their children, start at home!

  27. sexybitch said:

hey, cant u guys just realise the marvelous work of GOD…either its invitro or vitro or sheet or bitch..all we’ve got to do is try and accept what GOD has done, not what the docs have done. The Almighty gave doctors the wisdom to perform such things, but the growth of the heir inside the old womb just got to show the power/stregth and the wonderful piece of art dramatised by the the One who gives and taketh back life.

    GOD BLESS EVERYONE…

You should think about the children first. Maybe you did, just not enough.

  29. DanaDane said:

I agree with Shauna… we should also worry about the “studs” who are getting these 14 and 15 year old girls pregnant . Where are the boys fathers? Can they not teach their sons to put on a condom?? (Don’t even get me started on the “grown ” men in our country getting women pregnant and leaving them and their own child. I don’t have the strength for that today.)This couple obviously have been together a very long time and seems to be very much commited to each other. Actually I think that we could all learn from them .Teach your sons and daughters that! Love and commitment!

First of all, most comments are ignorant and do not even deserve a reply.
Nevertheless, I could not resist and thought I’d shed some light on some of the ignorant people taking part in this discussion.
What caught my attention is how some idiot can simply conclude that this couple is Muslim just by looking at their picture? Uh..NO! They have hindu names and are hindu, I don’t think that their decision to have kids was a relgious one either way. It’s a cultural thing in that region. They didn’t have kids to give their fortunes to, just so they can have someone to carry on their name. In that part of the world, women are not as powerful as men so it can be understood why a couple would want a male heir. You don’t have to agree with the values these people follow, but you cannot blame them for it. They were raised in that way and are influenced by the culture in their country. You can’t call them names or even blame them for what they did when you probably don’t even understand it. If they want kids, let them have kids. People are saying that they feel bad that the children will be raised in poverty, however, they fail to realize the pain the mother had to go to, being 70 years old, giving birth to two babies. India is a developing country, maybe those kids will have a bright nad healthy future. Who are you to judge?

That is a very good point, what the heck is left for the “heir” !! HAHA!!

  37. valwag said:

Let’s be realistic here. There are doctors all over the world that will do most anyting for the right amount of money. That said, I would imagine that they had an egg donor - quite possibly one of their daughters. Men are able to produce sperm and impregnate a woman until they die (practically). They probably used the fathers sperm, fertilized the donor eggs and after an incubation period to determine if the eggs were indeed viable, they implanted them into the mothers womb. She certainly would have taken hormones to ready her uterus and keep the hormone levels at a normal level during the pregnancy.

They probably had the blessing of their older children and spouses, knowing that they would probably have to take over the care of the twins because of the dealths of the parents down the road.

Just because our culture says that two very senior people shouldn’t have a child to carry on the family name, doesn’t mean that it is not a very important event in another culture. There are several instances when older grandmother-types have “loaned out” their uterus to one of their children, so that they could carry on the family name. Is this that much different? In both cases an old woman is taking hormones to be able to incubate a fetus for 9 months. Who takes care of it after that is their (the family’s) business.

The type of language that I have read disturbs me. Someone told me a long time ago that people who use foul language do so because they aren’t intelligent enough to express themselves in any other way. So, if the shoe fits…………..

Its true its their choice and their religion/culture but its always the women who has to suffer for the sake of the man! he really should had someone else have the babies. poor women, she did her part but because of the man’s wishes she has to suffer once more again. They should be happy having girls! girls have babies and their name/family still goes on but since its a man’s world only the man’s last name counts! butll shit we do all the work. thats why in my family. my sons got both names from us. respect other cultures but when people go to this extreme! poor woman, she could have died!

I think it is very interesting that much older women are deciding to have children. At the age of 70 she would have had no eggs. Her husband’s sperm would have had a very large chance of having mutations in dna that would have caused birth defects such as down syndrome. Perhaps they chose to use the eggs of one of her daughters and sperm from another donor in the father’s family. Whatever-the-case, their children will be cared for. After all, they do have much older children to help out.

  41. Cookie said:

valwag, I agree. People that use language like is posted on this site DON’T have the INTELLIGENCE to use proper words. Isn’t there anybody watching this stuff? One site I know of has a box to click on to report “inappropriate language”. This certainly isn’t appropriate for public reading. No, I’m not a prude, but wash your mouths out with soap people and clean up your language! Would you like your ten-year old daughter reading this stuff? Of course you probably talk this way in front of her. Sad.

  42. RJNinAk said:

Interesting comments…lots of foul language and poor grammar. Science and greed can produce “miracles”. This couple obviously had some kind of outside influence as in-vitro isn’t usually (I’m assuming) common conversation in Indian villages. I’m curious to know how they learned of the procedure and who directed them to the clinic where it was done. The doctor (a real one?) should have given it alot of thought to performing the procedure with this couple (eggs/sperm ? highly not their own). Is there really an heir if it is not their 100% DNA? Then, an heir to what? What exactly did they have to leave behind? But, the fact is there are two more human beings on this planet, scoot over, welcome aboard to planet earth. Let’s make room and hope for the best.
