NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The mayor of a working-class city roiled by allegations of police discrimination against Hispanics faced scathing criticism Wednesday from officials including the governor for saying he “might have tacos” as a way to do something for the community. The comments by East Haven Mayor Joseph Maturo brought unwanted attention to the leadership of the New Haven suburb, where four police officers were arrested Tuesday by the FBI on charges including deprivation of rights and obstruction of justice. The mayor was also criticized for his recent reappointment of police Chief Leonard Gallo, who was apparently referred to in the indictment as a co-conspirator. The four officers are accused of waging a campaign of harassment against Latino residents and businesses, including assaulting people while they were handcuffed and intimidating people who tried to investigate or report misconduct allegations. All four have pleaded not guilty. The taco comment came as Maturo, a Republican, was being interviewed late Tuesday by a reporter from New York’s WPIX-TV, Mario Diaz, who asked, “What are you doing for the Latino community today?” Maturo’s response: “I might have tacos when I go home; I’m not quite sure yet.” He initially defended his response and said it was being unfairly twisted. But he later apologized, saying he’d had a long day of interviews. Democratic Gov. Dannel P. Malloy said the comments are “repugnant.” “They represent either a horrible lack of judgment or worse, an underlying insensitivity to our Latino community that is unacceptable. Being tired is no excuse. He owes an apology to the community, and more importantly, he needs to show what he’s going to do to repair the damage he’s done. And he needs to do it today,” Malloy said. Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra, a native of Puerto Rico, said he was “disgusted” by Maturo’s comment. East Haven Democratic Town Committee Chairman Gene Ruocco called for Maturo’s resignation.

Guess he isn’t really counting on the Latino vote when it’s time for re-election.

CBS 6 – Authorities say Monterey Park police fatally shot a man Monday who broke windows at a fast-food restaurant, then swung a 3-foot-long metal bar as he approached officers. The gunfire erupted about 9:30 a.m. in the 1200 block of Cesar Chavez Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The sheriff’s department is investigating the shooting. Officers were investigating a report of a man “breaking out windows” at a Carl’s Jr. restaurant, sheriff’s Sgt. Pauline Panis said. Responding officers saw customers coming out of the restaurant, along with a man holding a 3-foot-long metal bar, Panis said. The officers ordered the man to drop the bar but he refused, Panis said, and at least one officer used a stun gun to try to subdue him. The man came “in close proximity” to officers and swung the bar twice she said. At least one officer opened fire, wounding the suspect. The suspect died of his injuries. Authorities withheld the name of the man, who was 20-30 years of age, pending notification of his relatives, coroner’s Chief Craig Harvey said.

This is why you don’t bring a 3ft metal bar to a gunfight. Guy had to of been on something pretty solid to not even be fazed by a taser to the face. Just pulled those prongs out like a BOSS and tried to go for the homerun swing with his metal pipe but came up short.

On a side note, how desensitized are we that people can laugh about someone losing their life? That’s pretty fucked up.

NY Daily News - A former fast food employee says mice ran rampant in the Philadelphia McDonald’s where he worked, and he caught it all on tape, Fox News reported. Video shows a mouse scurrying around inside a plastic bag filled with hamburger buns at the McDonald’s on Stenton Avenue in the West Oak Lake section of Philadelphia, where Karrium Demaio, 29, worked. Demaio says he frequently saw mouse droppings, and was told to brush them off the bread and serve them to customers. “There hasn’t been a time when we couldn’t go in the back and see mouse droppings on the bread,” he said. He told Fox News he revealed the video, which was shot in November, because he wanted to warn customers. “That wasn’t the first time. That was about the sixth or seventh time,” he said. “That’s what made me like, I got to get video of this. “I was going back there to get something else and I heard some rustling, so I turned around, and I look, I seen a mouse inside the bread. Not on top of the package, but inside of the package.” Demaio worked at the store from October 2010 to January of this year, when he was fired for skipping a shift. He told Fox News that he’s worked at two other McDonald’s, but had never seen something like this. The McDonald’s is “not in satisfactory compliance,” according to the Philadelphia Health Department, but inspectors did not cite evidence of rodents. The store says it will address concerns the video surfaced. “After viewing the video, we are going to continue to investigate this claim to make certain we have all the facts,” McDonalds owner and operator Ken Youngblood said in a statment. “I want my customers to know that I am taking this matter seriously and will immediately address any issues that may exist. Therefore, if necessary, we will work with the appropriate authorities to get the facts.”

As if eating McDonald’s wasn’t bad enough, now you’ve got to worry about whether or not the food you are about to eat is covered in mouse shit. Makes me look even closer now at those black specs on top of my Big Mac….
